Kisan Sampada Yojana

Kisan Sampada Yojana (Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters) is a comprehensive scheme launched by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), aimed at boosting the food processing sector in India. It is designed to enhance the country’s agricultural production by modernizing the food processing industry, reducing wastage, and increasing the income of farmers.

Key Details:
Objective: The primary aim of Kisan Sampada Yojana is to develop modern food processing infrastructure, reduce agricultural waste, and ensure the efficient use of farm produce, ultimately benefiting both farmers and the food processing industry.

Components: The scheme includes several sub-schemes that address different areas of food processing and agro-infrastructure, such as:
1. Mega Food Parks: To provide modern infrastructure for food processing units.
2. Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure: For creating a strong cold chain infrastructure and reducing post-harvest losses.
3. Creation/Expansion of Food Processing/Preservation Capacities: To enhance food processing capacity in the country.
4. Infrastructure for Agro-processing Clusters: To develop agro-processing clusters for a systematic approach to food processing.
5. Backward and Forward Linkages: Support for linking farmers to food processing units and ensuring market access.
6. Operation Greens: Aimed at stabilizing supply and price volatility for perishable commodities like tomato, onion, and potato.

Financial Assistance: The scheme provides financial assistance in the form of grants-in-aid to agro-processing projects:
– Up to 35% of eligible project costs in general areas.
– Up to 50% of eligible project costs in difficult areas, including the northeastern states, Himalayan regions, and other hilly and backward areas.

Impact on Farmers: The scheme aims to double farmers’ income by creating strong farm-to-market linkages, increasing processing and preservation capacities, and reducing wastage.

Eligibility: Agro-processing industries, farmer producer organizations (FPOs), cooperatives, government organizations, and private players in the food processing sector are eligible to apply.

By investing in infrastructure and processing capacities, Kisan Sampada Yojana seeks to transform India into a global food processing hub, supporting rural development, creating employment opportunities, and increasing farmers’ incomes through better market access and value addition.
